Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio was born on November 11, 1974 in Los Angeles, California. Parents of Leo were hippie and mother chose such a name for him when her yet unborn son pushed her while she was looking at a picture of Leonardo da Vinci. At the age of 14 DiCaprio decided to become an actor. He found an agent who liked both his hairstyle and his name. He acted in more than 30 preview trailers, in several series of “Santa Barbara”. Since 1991 he acted the serial “Growing Pains” but left the show to act in the film “This Boy’s Life”.
The picture “What’s eating Gilbert Grape” was his following work. In this film he played the mentally sick brother of Gilbert. His fair and open acting brought him a nomination for “Oscar”. The 19-year-old actor appeared in the centre of attention of the Hollywood bohemia. In 1994 there appeared western “The Quick And The Dead” where DiCaprio played one of the leading roles. In 1997 DiCaprio became a modern embodiment of Romeo in the modern version of “Romeo+Juliet”. This film became the most favourite one of the actor’s father. 1997 he became world famous due to “Titanic” which became the most important event of the year. Leonardo DiCaprio received a nomination for “Golden Globe”. Due to this role he became one of the most highly paid actors in Hollywood. After the film “The Aviator” he was awarded a degree “Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” (Order of Arts and Letters).
