The movie directed by Susan Montford in 2008 named ‘While She Was Out’ was not very successful and profitable with Kim Basinger, Lukas Haas, Luis Chavez, Craig Sheffer starring in the movie. Kim Basinger featured as Della Myers, is an upper-class housewife who lives in the elite condominium in the suburbs. She is married to abusive drunkard Kenneth with twin kids.
She spends all her time for the kids neglecting their house and her appearance. She affords some time for pilates and mechanical training. We see then that her tools in her red mechanical toolbox are a good weapon to struggle with anyone who can threaten her. On the Christmas Eve, at 4 a.m. she rushes to the local mall to do some Cristmass shopping (every housewife does it at this time) and she does not find any parking lot there available. She eventually (this is the main theme) finds the space but she leaves unpleasant message for those who parked in two parking lots. When she goes out of the moll, she is threatened by four thugs, all of Afro-American, Chinese-American and Latin roots. The security guard of the mall tries to protect her but he shot-dead and Della escapes to protect herself from gangsters. However she crashes her truck nearby a forest while chased by the gang. She takes the toolbox as her only rescue and hurries into the wood, fighting against the gang to survive. It is Christmas time and everybody is busy with their household affairs and shopping for gifts. So, she is not seen and heard by anyone to help. She is chased by four bustards and finally all of them are killed, by her or accidentally in the wood.
So, what is the core of the movie? That ordeals may hardened any person, even women, to change life values? Let sleeping dog lie? Why not? Possibly it is like that. At least, Della comes home completely changed and kills her husband. That’s all. She is free now. There are plenty of goofs in the movie visible to plain audience. One of them is when Della is killing one of the gangsters, she stays under him on the back and the gangster is bleeding for some time onto her. But when she stands up, she is clean as if she just gets up from her bed.
